The Restoration Center of Florida, Inc.
The proposed property is a 21 acre site located at 13460 Olympic Village Lane in Hernando County, uniquely placed in a quiet agricultural and residential area north of SR-50 and west of the Suncoast Parkway. The property has been used as a church for a number of years, with historical use as a summer camp facility. The current buildings on the property account for both uses, including two chapel buildings, a dining hall, three shower facilities, several “cabins” on concrete slabs, and a residential building.
The Restoration Center is a Christian based non-profit organization dedicated to providing support for women previously incarcerated. Our goal is to provide participants with temporary living accommodations, along with spiritual and behavioral training. Participants will also learn how to deal with sexual abuse, anger, parenting skills, addictions, career training, and more. The women will receive nine months of life skills instruction including educational and vocational guidance, with an emphasis on instilling Biblical principles while at the Center. The structured, daily schedule would include:
• Educational Courses
• Work Therapy
• Job Placement Training
• Group & Individual Counseling
• Weekly Church Services
• Daily Spiritual Enhancement Activities
• Pastoral Guidance
• GED or College Classes
• Discharge Planning
The desired use calls for the old chapel to remain as a chapel for worship and periodic class space. The newer chapel would be renovated as a living facility in dormitory format. The “cabins” would be used only for storage and office space. The residential building would be repaired and renovated for staff to live on-site, while the dining hall and kitchen would be used for current use. Training would include use of property for planting and care of gardens, physical exercise, and care of livestock.
